Gluten-Free Baked Apples Recipe

By: Gillian Olins on April 24, 2013

So, Isaac Newton saw an apple fall, which led to his theory of gravity. Unlike Newton, you don’t have to be a Physics whiz to master this easy gluten-free dessert. The recipe works best if you can find really tart, juicy apples. You can serve them with gluten-free ice cream or whipped cream. They taste like Mom’s best apple pie without the crust and …therefore…gluten-free!

4 large apples (e.g. Granny Smith)
4 Tbs brown sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
4 Tbs raisins
Water
6 Tbs white sugar

Gluten-Free Baked Apples RecipePreheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Remove the core of each apple. In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, cinnamon and raisins. Fill the center of each apple with equal amounts of this mixture. Place in a shallow, ovenproof baking dish; add 1/4-inch of water and sprinkle the white sugar into the water. Place the dish in the oven and bake until the apples are tender (about 40-50 minutes), basting occasionally with the liquid. Serve immediately.
