Gluten-Free Beef Keema Aloo Recipe

By: Gillian Olins on June 1, 2014

This is a traditional Pakistani dish made with ground beef, potatoes, and flavored with curry. It makes a delicious and gluten-free main course when served with basmati rice and mango chutney.

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 pound ground beef
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 large onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
1 large potato, cut into 1-inch cubes
2 carrots, cut into 1-inch cubes
2 tablespoons hot curry powder (gluten-free)
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 cups water or vegetable stock (gluten-free)

Gluten-Free Beef Keema Aloo RecipeHeat 1 teaspoon of the vegetable oil in a large saucepan over high heat. Add the beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the meat is browned. Transfer the meat to a bowl, discarding the fat, and set aside.

Heat the remaining oil and cook the onion, garlic, and ginger for 8 minutes until soft. Add the potato, carrots, and curry powder, and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste, water or stock, and the beef. Cook over medium heat until the potatoes are tender (about 20 minutes). Adjust flavor to taste with salt and pepper if needed. Serve with basmati rice and mango chutney.
